The Israeli enemy “army” announced today, Sunday, the killing of the commander of the 401st Brigade by detonating an explosive device in Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip, which is the highest rank that the resistance has been able to kill since the beginning of the ground aggression on the Strip.

While Al-Qassam Brigades announced earlier that it had sniped a number of soldiers and officers of the Zionist enemy entity and targeted their vehicles and tanks with shells and explosive devices.

401st Brigade is a regular armored brigade in the “army” of the Israeli enemy operating under the command of the 162nd Armored Division of the Southern Command of the occupation army.

Today, the brigade operates Merkava M4 tanks with an active tank protection system and a computerized ZD battle management system. It has also recently begun receiving Merkava Barak tanks, the most advanced tanks in the IDF and among the most advanced in the world.

The brigade was established in 1967 from 46th Tank Battalion, a reserve battalion that participated in the 1967 war. After the war, 46th Battalion was converted into a regular battalion, and a liaison company was added to it.

In 1968, it was transferred to the 79th Regular Tank Brigade, thus becoming the 401st Regular Tank Brigade, the first in the IDF.

 

Today, the brigade includes 5 armored, engineering and infantry battalions: 46th, 52nd, 9th, 601st (combat engineering battalion), and 298th.

In the Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa, 401st Brigade was one of the first brigades to enter the Gaza Strip from the north, early on October 27th. He participated in many battles in the northern Gaza Strip, such as the siege of Gaza City, and led some military operations, including the fighting that took place in the area of ​​Al-Rantisi Hospital.

In mid-February 2024, 401st Brigade led a number of battles in Al-Shati, Al-Zeitoun, and Al-Nuseirat. In the Battle of Rafah, the brigade led the forces of the 162nd Division, seized Rafah crossing, and advanced along the entire Philadelphi axis.

On June 26, a ceremony was held in Rafah to replace the brigade commander, who was killed by the Al-Qassam Brigades today, Sunday.
